The story of how Dosan Saito usurped the province, the seal of Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi unfolded in Mino Province during the Warring States Period, and Gifu City is the place associated with many dramas depicting this era.
While you’re in Gifu City, we highly encourage you to take an enjoyable tour of the Jokamachi (city around the castle), led by an eloquent tour guide with expert knowledge of the area and its history.

The town, castle and residence built by Dosan Saito, father-in-law of Lord Nobunaga were all given to Nobunaga as an inheritance.
At the ruins of Nobunaga's residence, including the stonewalls, stairs, and other remains, you’ll get the chance to encounter the history of what was formerly known as Mt. Inaba and its castle, leading up to the history of Mt. Kinka and Gifu Castle.
From the keep of Gifu Castle, visitors can see just what Nobunaga saw.

- Ruins of Nobunaga's residence (megaliths from the Nobunaga era, stone walls from the Dosan period)
- Geological chert folds found in Nobunaga’s garden (featured on the “Bura Tamori” TV show)
- Ruins of Gifu Castle (stonewalls, moat cuttings, gate ruins, kitchen ruins, etc.)
- Gifu Castle keep (with a panoramic view of the Nobi Plain)
Tour route
Meet at Gifu Park General Information Center → ruins of Nobunaga's residence → take ropeway to the mountaintop → remains of Gifu Castle → Gifu Castle keep (end of tour)

・This tour will end at the summit. Take your time to explore, have a meal, or walk down the mountain after the tour ends.
・The guided tour takes 120 minutes, but extra time may be required when waiting for the ropeway.
・Please understand that the tour time will be shortened or extended depending on how crowded the facilities are.
